Oven Maintenance Tips

Clean the oven racks

Oven racks should be removed and washed in the sink. You can soak them in warm soapy water to loosen food particles and spills. Always remove the racks before using the self-cleaning feature to avoid warping.

Clean the exterior

Clean the control panel carefully and gently with a non-abrasive cloth and mild detergent. The door panel and glass should only be cleaned when completely cool, with a heavy-duty degreaser.

Replace the light bulbs

Use a simple 40-watt appliance bulb inside of the oven. Some models may require you to remove a glass cover to reach it.

Do not overload or crowd the oven

Do not use the oven as storage as you may forget items inside the next time you turn it on to preheat. Also, overloading the oven will decrease its performance and put you in danger. Instead of cooking too much at a time, try cooking similar foods together and stagger cooking times.

Inspect the door lock and the seal

The oven seal keeps heat inside the oven, and if they are defective, that can lead to heat escaping and make cooking a nightmare. Inspect your gaskets and door lock when you do regular maintenance, just to make sure you’re not making your oven work twice as hard.
