    Residential Stove Repair FAQs

Why do electric burners stop working?

If you’re experiencing problems with your stove burners, the likely cause is either a bad connection, a faulty switch or just a faulty burner. Normally, the connections in the burner socket can simply burn out. If you check the socket and find charring and burns, that means it’s time to replace them.

When should I replace my stove?

The usual lifetime for a stove is around 15 years, but if you have a gas range, they may last longer. If you’re experiencing frequent problems with the burners and have difficulties cooking your food, then it’s time for a replacement.

Do electric stove burners wear out?

Yes. Electric stove burners or surface coil elements will eventually wear out. An appliance repair specialist can fix this up for you with no issues.

Is it better to repair or replace a stove?

The best way to determine whether you need to replace your stove is the cost of the repair and the age of the appliance, especially if you have a commercial stove. If your appliance has surpassed half of its usual lifespan and the repair would cost you close to the cost of a new one, you’re better off replacing it.

When should I replace my electric stove burners?

If you notice visible breaks, that means that the element needs to be replaced. When inspecting the coils under the top, check for burn spots and or breaks. If you notice any, then you’ll need an appliance repair specialist to replace it.

    Stove Maintenance Tips

    Prevent spillage

Use pans and pots that won’t boil-over and splatter. This will prevent damage from food spillage and prolong your stove’s lifespan.

    Clean spillage quickly

It is inevitable that you will have food spillage while cooking. The best way to prevent permanent damage is to wipe down the spillage with a damp cloth or sponge as quickly as possible. Also, make it a habit to wipe down the stovetop after usage, so that you won’t have to use strong abrasives later.

    Don't use strong abrasives

Strong abrasives leave scratches on the surface, so if you haven’t picked up the spillage right away, try to stay away from abrasive powders. Instead, try to use a sponge with a mixture of warm water, dishwashing liquid and vinegar, or an all purpose cleaner. Remember, the more you leave the spilled food to dry, the more you’ll need to scrub after, so it’s better to take care of such issues right away.

    Regularly clean stove parts

In addition to your regular wipe-downs, give the other parts a gentle clean periodically. For example, wash any removable accessories with warm water and dishwashing liquid (but don’t wash the electric burner coils). Also, clean around the knobs or even better, remove the knobs and give them a proper wash in warm water with some dish soap. Make sure they are dried up before you put them back on.
