Commercial Ice Machine FAQs
A common problem is that your ice maker stops dispensing ice or water. If you notice this happening, first make sure that there is sufficient flow of water into the ice maker. You may simply need to turn on the water. Ensure that the feeler of the ice maker is not blocked or has switched off the machine. The feeler is the arm that pushes the cubes to the outer tray. If too much ice piles up, this will make the feeler stay lifted, which prevents the dispensing of more ice.
If your ice maker is not making the amount of ice that it used to, first check whether there is a frozen line anywhere.
We know your time is valuable, whether it’s a rental property, your own property, or your business, we will be there in no time, in order for your to go back to your daily business, with as little disruption as possible.
If you notice water on the floor near your ice machine, the ice maker could be leaking. Make sure that the ice maker is in a level position. Then check to make sure that there is no damage in the water pipes nearby. Check the filler cup in the ice maker to make sure that is well positioned. If you are finding no issues, but there still is a leak, reach out to the pros for help.
If the water freezes before getting into the ice maker mold, your ice maker will freeze up. To correct this, you will need to set your thermostat to the recommended temperature. If the temperature seems fine, but the water is freezing before getting to the mold, the experts can help with restaurant equipment repairs

Ice Machine Maintenance Tips
As your ice maker creates ice, minerals separate from the water and stick to the surface of the water system. In order to remove these particles and prevent ice buildup, simply do a thorough clean. This will prevent bacteria growth and keep those ice cubes crystal clear. Most manufacturers recommend doing a proper ice machine cleaning 4 times a year. Here’s how to clean the ice machine properly:
- Turn it off and disconnect
- Dispose of any water or ice residue
- Clean off lime, calcium and other deposits from the evaporator plates
- Clean the water system by circulating cleaning solution
- Clean any removable parts
- Remove debris from the condenser coils
- Make sure to air dry any removable parts before reassembling
- Sanitize with some commercial solution
- Replace the water filter every 6 months
- Dispose of first ice batch just in case there is leftover cleaning solution
- Wipe down the exterior
An experienced technician can help you do regular maintenance for your ice maker, but there are some things you can do on your own. For example, you can test the controls and check their condition, including the wiring. Also, check the hoses, valve, screen and any other parts for damage. You can also check the interior temperature and verify that the water system pressure is right.
Maintenance checks will ensure your ice machine works perfectly at all times. As part of your regular maintenance, make sure you:
- Clean the ice machine 4 times per year
- Replace the water filter every 6 months
- Clean the water system
- Clean the air filters
- Check the filtration system and check inlet valve screens
- Visually inspect controls and wiring for loose fasteners, corrosion, oil spots and so on.
