Commercial Walk-In Freezer FAQs
If you notice a build-up of frost in your commercial walk-in freezer it could mean that the temperatures inside aren’t stable. This not only causes items to melt and refreeze again, making them unsafe for consumption, but is also an indication that humidity levels are causing excess condensation in your freezer. A build-up of frost by the freezer doors is also an indication that the freezer seals aren’t stopping warm air from leaking inside
A build-up of frost isn’t the only indicator of inconsistent temperatures in your walk-in freezer. If you find that the temperature of your freezer is constantly changing without due cause, it could well be the work of a faulty sensor that is fluctuating and causing problems. It could also simply be an indication of bad staff habits.
Is your commercial refrigerator or refrigeration equipment not powering up? Is your bottle fridge not cooling? In the commercial restaurant business, fixing these issues in a timely manner is paramount.
An obvious sign of mechanical problems are noisy freezers. While most walk-in freezers will have some sort of hum, anything louder or inconsistent is a sure sign that your cooler is malfunctioning. A struggling cooler will need professional inspection and repair from a technician who can identify exactly what the problem is and what the best steps are to take to get your freezer back up and running properly.

Walk in Freezer Maintenance Tips
To prevent ice buildup, you should regularly check the drains, insulation panels and gaskets. Also, install vinyl strip curtains or air curtains to stop warm air from coming in as people walk in and out of the freezer.
Every six months, look for damage and thoroughly inspect the freezer. Look for unusual noise, inspect for signs of corrosion on copper tubing, solder joints and fins. Also, check the drain pan to make sure that there is no ice buildup or debris.
Use a brush, pressurized water, mild detergent or evaporator coil cleaner, but don’t use acid based cleaners. Then, simply rinse the coils until you’ve gotten rid of the residue and pay attention to the drain line, pan and trap.
Make sure there is good airflow and that all fans work well. Ensure that each fan rotates smoothly and tighten any loose screws. Also, check the fan blades for wear and tear and ensure all fan motors are fastened to the motor rail. Also, lubricate the motors if needed.
If your freezer doesn’t close properly, the cool air will escape, which will make it work much harder and also waste energy.
