Continental Commercial Refrigeration Repair

CooperFix diagnoses and repairs Continental Refrigeration equipment in restaurants, bakeries and food production rooms across Toronto and the GTA. Continental cabinets are built for long service life, which means the units we are called to are often ten or fifteen years old and the fault is as likely to be wear as failure.

Continental builds upright refrigerators and freezers, refrigerated preparation tables, worktop and undercounter cabinets, roll-in units and milk coolers. Section width and door configuration determine which components apply, so the data plate is read first.

Upright Refrigerators and Freezers

One, two and three section cabinets with solid or glass doors and a self-contained condensing section.

Sandwich and Salad Prep Tables

Refrigerated base with a chilled pan rail. Rail temperature is measured separately from cabinet temperature, because they can fail independently.

Pizza Prep Tables

Deeper rail and heavier lids. Lid alignment and rail gasket condition are checked before anything else.

Worktop Cabinets

Low units used as both storage and work surface. Heat from adjacent equipment is a common and overlooked load.

Undercounter Units

Installed in a line with limited ventilation. Clearance and air path are assessed on site.

Milk Coolers

Top-opening cabinets in cafeterias and schools. Lid sealing and interior circulation are the usual starting point.

Continental Faults We See Most Often

Rail temperature drifting while the cabinet is fine. On prep tables these are two different problems. Measuring both separates them in minutes.

Hinge and gasket wear on older cabinets. Fifteen years of door cycling changes how a door closes. The gasket is often blamed when the hinge has dropped.

Condenser fouling in flour and grease environments. Bakeries load a coil differently than a grill line does, and the cleaning interval has to match the room.

Evaporator fan motors. A slowing fan produces uneven temperature and localised frost rather than a uniformly warm cabinet.

Drain and defrost water. Standing water inside a cabinet usually points at a blocked drain or a defrost that is not terminating properly.

Why the Symptom Is Not the Diagnosis

A warm Continental cabinet can come from airflow, hinge wear, loading, condenser condition, a fan, a sensor, an electrical component or the refrigeration circuit. On equipment this age, the mechanical and airflow causes are checked first because they are the most common.

Each of those leads to a different repair and a different cost. Measurements and the equipment sequence come before a recommendation, not after it.

What Helps Before We Arrive

• Model and serial number from the data plate.
• The temperature the unit is set to and the temperature it is actually showing.
• When the change started and whether anything else changed at the same time.
• Whether the unit is running continuously, cycling, or not starting.
