- Evaporator airflow and drainage condition. A blocked return-air path or a failed defrost cycle lets the coil ice over. The system holds temperature but runs constantly and ices repeatedly.
- Missing or failed low-ambient head pressure control. In cold weather head pressure falls too far and the expansion valve can no longer feed the evaporator. The system works all summer and fails in January.
- Panel and vapour barrier damage. A punctured panel, a forklift strike or a failed seal lets moisture into the insulation. It shows first as a cold spot outside and later as a room that will not hold.
- Undersized or overloaded circuit for the real duty. A box asked to pull down warm product every day was often specified for storage, not for recovery. Capacity is measured under the real load before anyone recommends new equipment.
- Ambient conditions around the equipment. A condenser in an unventilated cupboard, next to a cook line or under a hot roof deck raises head pressure permanently and shortens everything downstream of it.
- Compressor valve and mechanical wear. A compressor that pumps poorly gives low discharge pressure with normal suction, long run times and rising discharge temperature — often mistaken for an undercharge.
- Defrost interval set for the wrong load. A schedule that was right when the box was installed is wrong once door traffic or product volume changes. Ice returns whatever parts get replaced.
