Sierra Refrigerated Display Repair
CooperFix repairs Sierra refrigerated displays across Toronto and the GTA. Sierra is the open air and glass door display line built by MTL COOL in Chambly, Quebec — Sierra-24, -36, -48 and -48-XL glass door cases, Sierra-LP and Sierra-ULP low profile open air cases, and the wide Sierra-LPX runs. MTL COOL has no service branch in the GTA, so a warm Sierra case here is a local call.
Sierra cases run on R290 in most models and R448A in the Sierra-48-XL, so charge, leak work and component selection follow the refrigerant on the data plate, not a generic figure. Where a store runs several Sierra cases put in at the same time, a fault on one is checked against the others before parts are ordered.

Sierra Glass Door Coolers
Sierra-24, -36, -48 and -48-XL. Door heaters, gaskets, fan motors and the evaporator are checked as one before the circuit is opened.
Sierra Low Profile Open Air Cases
Sierra-24-LP, -36-LP and -48-LP. Open cases live or die on air curtain integrity, night curtain use and what the room does to the discharge air.
Sierra ULP Open Air Cases
Sierra-ULP-50, -72 and -96. Long runs where one weak section shows up as a temperature spread along the case, not as a dead unit.
Sierra LPX Wide Runs
Sierra-LPX-96 and -144. Multi-section cases where the fault is located by section before anything is replaced.
R290 Hydrocarbon Circuits
Most Sierra models are propane charged. Charge size, leak work and parts are handled to that refrigerant, with the correct recovery and handling.
R448A Circuits
The Sierra-48-XL runs R448A. Glide, superheat targets and charging method differ from R290 and are treated separately.
Sierra Faults We See Most Often
Same fault across a fit-out. When several units of the same age share a room, one failing component usually means the others are close behind. Worth knowing before the next one stops.
Shared ventilation problem. A room designed with several units in one run can starve them all of air. The unit that fails first is the one in the worst position.
Rail temperature on prep tables. Rail and cabinet fail independently, and measuring both takes a minute and saves a wrong repair.
Condenser loading. Coil condition tracks the room, not the calendar. A grill line loads a coil faster than a cold prep room.
Gasket wear across a set. Doors installed at the same time wear at the same rate. Checking all of them at one visit is cheaper than four visits.
Why the Symptom Is Not the Diagnosis
A warm Sierra cabinet can come from ventilation shared with other units, airflow, loading, condenser condition, a fan, a sensor or the refrigeration circuit. Where a room holds several units, the room itself is part of the diagnosis.
Each of those leads to a different repair and a different cost. Measurements and the equipment sequence come before a recommendation, not after it.
What Helps Before We Arrive
- Model and serial number from the data plate.
- The temperature the unit is set to and the temperature it is actually showing.
- When the change started and whether anything else changed at the same time.
- Whether the unit is running continuously, cycling, or not starting.
How a Sierra Service Call Runs
- Identify the unit. Model, serial, application, set point and recent temperature history.
- Look at the room. Other refrigeration in the same run, shared ventilation and how air moves through the line.
- Review the cabinet. Doors, gaskets, hinges, loading, visible frost or standing water.
- Check airflow and heat rejection. Condenser condition, fans, clearance and air paths.
- Test controls and electrical operation. Set point, sensors, measured temperatures and the components in the sequence.
- Report before repair. What was measured, what it means and what the repair involves, including anything found on neighbouring units.
