- Oil return problems on long line runs. Risers without traps, a failed separator or an incorrect oil charge starve the compressor. The symptom is noise and heat long before the box loses temperature.
- Moisture in the refrigerant circuit. Moisture a medium-temperature system tolerates will freeze at the metering device on a low-temperature one, producing intermittent starvation that looks exactly like an electrical fault.
- Dirty evaporator coil. On commercial food service and retail refrigeration the evaporator picks up grease and dust as well, and a fouled evaporator reduces airflow exactly like ice does.
- Condenser fan cycling control faults. A fan that runs when it should stop, or stops when it should run, swings head pressure and destabilises the whole circuit.
- Undersized or overloaded circuit for the real duty. A box asked to pull down warm product every day was often specified for storage, not for recovery. Capacity is measured under the real load before anyone recommends new equipment.
