    • Evaporator fan motor failure. One seized fan out of four cuts capacity far more than a quarter, because the coil ices behind the dead fan and blocks the rest of the face area.

    • Restricted airflow across the condenser. Grease film, flour dust, cardboard lint and roof debris insulate the coil. Head pressure and discharge temperature climb, capacity drops and the compressor runs hot.
    • Expansion valve or metering problems. A TXV with a lost bulb charge, a plugged screen or a flooded coil produces unstable superheat, liquid returning to the compressor and poor box temperature.
    • Ambient conditions around the equipment. A condenser in an unventilated cupboard, next to a cook line or under a hot roof deck raises head pressure permanently and shortens everything downstream of it.
    • Control and probe faults. A probe out of calibration or hanging in the wrong airstream makes a healthy system behave like a broken one, and makes a failing system look normal.
