Walk-In Freezer Repair in Angus
Most walk-in freezer calls we take in Angus are not about a failed compressor. They are about a room that has been quietly losing capacity for weeks and finally crossed the line on a warm day. Finding what changed matters more than replacing the first part that looks suspect.

Airflow and Drainage
Return-air path, coil cleanliness and whether the evaporator fans keep running through the cycle.
Panels and Floor
Panel joints, visible damage and any sign of moisture inside the insulation. Crushed panel is a permanent load no machine can compensate for.
Condensing Unit
Compressor, condenser coil, fans and the air the unit actually gets. Head pressure is set here and everything downstream depends on it.
Controller and Probe
Setpoint, differential and probe placement, checked against a calibrated thermometer in the product zone rather than trusted from the display.
Ambient and Placement
What surrounds the condensing unit: room for air to move freely, warm air blowing straight back into the coil, and a hot space around it. Poor placement raises head pressure, so the unit runs longer and holds less cold.
Defrost Operation
Type, interval and termination, measured rather than assumed. Incorrect termination is the most common reason ice comes back.
What We Find Most Often
Missing or failed low-ambient head pressure control. In cold weather head pressure falls too far and the expansion valve can no longer feed the evaporator. The system works all summer and fails in January.
Restricted airflow across the condenser. Grease film, flour dust, cardboard lint and roof debris insulate the coil. Head pressure and discharge temperature climb, capacity drops and the compressor runs hot.
Defrost interval set for the wrong load. A schedule that was right when the box was installed is wrong once door traffic or product volume changes. Ice returns whatever parts get replaced.
Blocked or frozen condensate drain. No drain-line heater, a broken trap, or a line pitched the wrong way puts water on the floor and ice at the coil.
Moisture in the refrigerant circuit. Moisture a medium-temperature system tolerates will freeze at the metering device on a low-temperature one, producing intermittent starvation that looks exactly like an electrical fault.
Why the Symptom Is Not the Diagnosis
A description of the problem is a starting point, not a diagnosis. Every one of the complaints on this page has at least three plausible causes behind it.
What Helps Before We Arrive
- What changed on site recently: a delivery, a cleaning, a power cut, a door repair
- How much product is in the box and what it is worth
- What the box is actually reading now and what it should be reading
- When it started and whether it has happened before
- Equipment type and brand, and the model and serial number from the data plate
How a Service Call Runs in Angus
The sequence below is fixed. It is what turns a description of a problem into a fault with evidence behind it.
- Calculate superheat and subcooling and compare them against the data for that equipment.
- Confirm what the room is actually holding with a calibrated thermometer, next to whatever the controller reports.
- Establish the current state: cooling, in defrost, off on a control, or locked out on a safety.
- Say plainly what can be finished today and what cannot, while there is still time to act on it.
- Record the readings so the next visit has a baseline instead of starting from memory.
- Measure supply voltage on every leg and running amps against the nameplate.

Symptoms Reported on Walk-In Freezers in Angus
Calls from this area can also use the northern line, 437-800-1565. The list below is what gets described on the phone. The same description can come from four different faults, so the visit starts with instruments, not with a part.
- Condensation on the glass, on the frame or dripping onto product.
- A newly delivered load never pulls down to temperature at all.
- Water pooling under the case, or the unit tripping a breaker under load.
- The condensing unit runs almost continuously and never reaches a normal off cycle.
- A reach-in fridge cycles short, runs loud and never pulls the box down after a busy service.
- The box recovers normally on a quiet day and cannot keep up on a busy one.
- Thick ice builds on the evaporator coil, on the suction line or across the freezer ceiling.
- The door is hard to open in the morning, or frozen shut outright.
