What We Find Most Often

Loose electrical terminations. A terminal that has been heating for months is visible as discolouration long before it fails, and it is the cheapest fault on this list to prevent.

Condenser fan cycling control faults. A fan that runs when it should stop, or stops when it should run, swings head pressure and destabilises the whole circuit.

Blocked or frozen condensate drain. No drain-line heater, a broken trap, or a line pitched the wrong way puts water on the floor and ice at the coil.

Contactor and relay wear. Pitted contacts drop one leg of a three-phase supply. The compressor single-phases, draws locked-rotor current and trips the overload.

Evaporator airflow and drainage condition. A blocked return-air path or a failed defrost cycle lets the coil ice over. The system holds temperature but runs constantly and ices repeatedly.

Why the Symptom Is Not the Diagnosis

Symptoms overlap. A room that will not hold looks identical whether the charge is low, the coil is iced or a fan has stopped — until the readings are taken.
